Meet Ruth

Let me tell you a story! My life has been full of them. Yours has, too!

I am Ruth. Over the decades since 1958, I have been a daughter, sister, student, wife, mother, teacher… and a storyteller.

Here is a peek at my personal story. Born in Pennsylvania in the hospital where my mom trained as a registered nurse while my dad was on duty as a submarine officer, my family moved nine times from coast to coast before I was five. This phase ended when my dad followed a call to ministry and began his studies at Boston University. Life as a preacher’s kid took us to Illinois and eventually to Tulsa where I met my husband Jim while attending university.

Living the sacrament of marriage since 1981, Jim and I raised five children and are now enjoying the blessings of their marriages and our grandchildren. Since 1983, I have participated in the Roman Catholic expression of Christian faith. I am comfortable telling Biblical stories to Protestant, Catholic and ecumenical gatherings. We live close to Atlanta, but travel frequently.

In this later season of my life, I trained with the Academy for Biblical Storytelling through the Network of Biblical Storytellers, International to learn scripture by heart and tell biblical passages in the tradition of oral literature through the medium of storytelling. The stories I tell are directly from the Bible. The reflections I share are based in sound scholarship. I seek to guide participants into an understanding of how scripture is relevant in our daily lives.
